New Haven Dev Diary #1 Accessibility & Optimization

Hey everybody it's been a while, excuse my tardiness. First of all to address the delay of the first public demo, I was not happy with the state of the game and how it represents what I want the game to be. So I've decided to "let it cook"  until December.

Now for more exciting things, what I've been busy with and the focus of this Update:

Things I've been working on:

  • Overhauling Graphics and Optimization
  • Tutorialization
  • UI and Interaction
  • Dialogue and NPCS
  • NPC schedules and Spawning
  • Saving & Loading with Multiplayer
  • Multiplayer Shenanigans
  • Vehicles and Movement
  • Implementing Leveling and Stats across Multiplayer
  • Creating a standard for the Character Editor and NPC Generation
  • AI and Pathfinding

The Focus of this Update: Accessibility

Implemented Options:

Graphics

  • Resolution Detection and Changing in Game
  • Windowed or Fullscreen Option
  • Enable or Disable Post Effects (Will be more advanced in the future)
  • View Distance Slider
  • Shadow Quality Slider
  • Texture Quality Slider

Audio

  • Music Volume (Need to restructure how I handle sound to split into more like (SFX, Speech volume etc.)

Controls

  • Enable or Disable Mouse Smoothing
  • Mouse Sensitivity Slider
  • Controller Support

Character Creation

  • Implemented choice to be trans-male or trans-female with players choice on custom pronouns.

Research

Language

  • Experimenting with Unity's Localization Package to make multiple languages available on release

Visual

  • Currently Researching an implementation for assistance with colour blindness.

Controls

  • Currently Researching the best solution to implement custom controls and devices for physically impaired players (This is probably not going to come with the 0.1 release due to me not focusing on custom controls yet, but is something I think is very important )

If you are someone who is physically impaired and loves video-games please contact me at flumen.work@gmail.com, I really need the input of the community on all the variables and tech compatibility in that space from someone who uses them.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my ramblings, will have another diary update this weekend on more exciting stuff like the new overhauled graphics and character models.

Be kind to each other, and keep the game-dev dream alive <3
